Regional Efforts

Chapter VIII

The use of regional organizations in the maintenance of international peace and security is addressed under Chapter VIII of the UN charter. Chapter VIII concludes that regional organizations are not precluded from dealing with matters of international peace and security as long as their action is in line with the purpose and principles of the UN Charter. In addition, Chapter VII authorizes the Security Council to utilize regional arrangements for enforcement action.
